Displaced Student Initiative
In November 2025, the UK Government announced the creation of a new safe and legal route for refugee students to resettle in the UK through higher education.
This will be the UK's first dedicated education pathway, combining refugee resettlement with access to university study.
Universities will soon be able to play a direct role in sponsoring, welcoming and supporting academically talented refugee students through this new government endorsed pathway.
We would like the Government to establish and fully implement this education route by the Autumn of 2026, so that universities and the organisations supporting them are able to welcome the first cohort of students to begin their studies in September 2027. We're working at pace to help that happen.
